Street Outreach

The street outreach program is divided into two parts:  One is organizing an outreach in Agora Lapasan, one of the slums of Cagayan de Oro. The other, is to maintain regular contact with street children at various focus points of the city.

Every Saturday afternoon, college students, who are also beneficiaries of PIKIFI, organize a program for the needy kids of Agora. These afternoons are dedicated to personal contacts with the children and their families. The college students listen to their concerns and offer possible solutions or interventions with the support of a social worker. The afternoon winds up with a warm meal and friendly togetherness.

An outreach team regularly visits children in street situations. The team spends time to establish rapport with the children and to find out reasons for their habit of living in the streets. The children are encouraged to leave the streets and return to their families. For the cases where children could not be reintegrated in their families, temporary shelter is provided in our  Children’s Village.

It is important for us to offer the children direction and reintegration into society. We work on their self worth and allow them to discover their potential to eventually free them from a marginalized life of addiction, exploitation and severe poverty.
