The end of the school year is an important occasion and is celebrated with appreciation. The family members wash their best clothes, the children put on their school uniforms, everyone dresses up. Those who complete a level – elementary school (grade 6), junior (grade 10) or senior high school (grade 12) – borrow a festive toga to wear and put on the typical hat: white for elementary school graduation, blue-purple for junior or senior high school graduation, black for graduation.

At our school, all the elementary school children and their families gather in the auditorium, where some listen more, others less attentively to the many speeches. Each child is then called forward individually. Their teacher, the principal and the two founders of our charity congratulate them and present them with their certificates and the awards they have earned for good behavior, friendliness, helpfulness, diligence, cleanliness, generosity, attentiveness, trustworthiness, cooperation and/or punctuality. As they leave the stage, photos are taken of the beaming children with the proud accompanying person. The parents know: By attending school, my child has better future opportunities than I had!

Some 2nd generation children, i.e. children of former IKP protégés, are now attending our school. These girls and boys will have even better opportunities as they already attend classes from nursery. Their parents are very encouraging and supportive, whether they have completed compulsory schooling themselves or not. They know from experience the value and essential importance of education.
